Data Flow Diagram Visio Stencil Download

Posted on -

You can use a data flow diagram in Visio to document the logical flow of data through a set of processes or procedures. Visio lets you include external sources and destinations for the data, activities that transform the data, and stores or collections where the data is held.

  1. Click the File tab.

  2. Click New, click Software and Database, and then double-click Data Flow Diagram.

  3. From the Data Flow Diagram Shapes stencil, drag an External interactor shape onto the drawing page to represent each external source or destination for data.

  4. Drag more shapes onto the page to represent the processes, states, or entities involved in the data flow you are documenting.

  5. Indicate the flow of data in your diagram with Center to center shapes and indicate data loops using Loop on center shapes.

    Indicate data flow between objects

    1. From Data Flow Diagram Shapes, drag a Center to center shape onto the drawing page. Place it near the two shapes between which you want to show the flow of data.

    2. To change the direction of the arrow, select the arrow, and then on the Home tab, in the Arrange group, click Position. Point to Rotate Shapes, and then click Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical.

    3. Drag the endpoints of the Center to center shape to the connection points at the center of each of the other shapes. The endpoints turn red to indicate that the shapes are connected.

    4. To change the arrow curvature, drag the selection handle . To change the location of the ends of the arrows, drag a control handle .

    Indicate a data loop

    1. From Data Flow Diagram Shapes, drag a Loop on center shape onto the drawing page near the place where you want to indicate a data loop.

    2. Drag the begin point of the Loop on center shape to the center of the state or process shape that has the data loop. The endpoint turns red to indicate that the shapes are connected.

    3. To change the size or position of the loop, drag the end point. To change the location of the ends of the loop, drag the control handle and the selection handle .

I have installed Visio 2013 Standard and I'm trying to create an UML diagram. I choose the 'UML class' template but when it opens, the Shapes panel is empty. As recomended, I go to 'More Shapes' m.

In Microsoft Visio 2007, there was a 'Software & Database' template to be able to draw ER diagrams. In Visio 2010, this template is missing. Does anyone know if this template (and others missing) can be downloaded and installed in Visio 2010? Can you explain how this can be done?

Based on the answers posted and comments, I've done the following.

The templates might have been installed incorrectly here, which conflicts with one of the comments posted about the path of these templates. Notice two 'Office14' folders:

I was able to get some of the templates to show up (File > New) by doing the following:

  1. Microsoft Visio
  2. File
  3. Options
  4. Advanced
  5. File Locations (button at very bottom)
  6. then specify the path above for the “Templates” field.

You may have to restart Visio.

This however does NOT allow access to DBMODL_U.VST (Database Modeling template), probably because the DBMODL_U.VSS file is missing.

I've also tried moving the C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14Office14Visio Content folder into C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14, but that did not do anything, even after a Windows restart.

If you don't have the Software and Database option then you don't have Visio Professional. They still exist in Visio 2010 Professional and Premium.

I was able to use the 'Shapes for Crows Foot Database Notation' after finding and double clicking the following Visio Template:
